WE ARE NOT MONSTERS ☺

WE ARE NOT MONSTERS ☺

Schizophrenics should not have to deal with our ignorance towards their challenges on top of everything else.

The world of an individual with SCHIZOPHRENIA has often been misrepresented by secular media and society, leading to much uncertainty in people’s minds regarding the effects, struggles, and manifestation of the said mental disorder. The impact of these misrepresentations often results in stigmas and fear toward individuals with schizophrenia, adversely affecting their work opportunities, relationships, and willingness to admit to having schizophrenia in public.

While it is inevitably true that schizophrenia brings many challenges to those with it, we, as a society, can play a part in making things better, starting with being AWARE of it. People struggling with schizophrenia should not have to deal with our ignorance towards their challenges on top of everything else.

02 — MOODBOARD INSPIRATION

In an effort to alleviate such circumstances, I attempted to illustrate the world patients with schizophrenia live in and how it intertwines with ours. To do so, I used silhouettes, paintings, and fabric manipulation to depict the distorted reality that they experience.

Yet, I intentionally adopted a pastel colour scheme to evoke a sense of hope amid the distortions, conveying to the viewers that not all is lost. The colours also serve to defuse any sense of aversion towards such distortions, hoping that it helps viewers be more welcoming toward those with schizophrenia in their lives.
